How does Sweden support shared parenting?

The second speaker in our World Series of Webinars is Malin Bergström who is a child psychologist and scientist at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

She is a specialist in studies concerning the effect on children with different child custody arrangements after divorce or separation.

Using cross-sectional and longitudinal study designs, her research group has shown that children have better physical, mental and social outcomes if they live in a shared parenting arrangement compared to primarily living with only one parent.

This webinar is on Wednesday 19th October from 14.00 to 15.30.

Malin will talk about the situation in Sweden leading up to the high frequency of shared parenting and about her research results.  She will also describe ways that separated parents sharing the care of their children in Sweden are being supported, including through a new app.

Staff from Shared Parenting Scotland will respond to Malin’s talk and then open up discussion about ways in which shared parenting can be supported in Scotland.
