Seeking a new chief executive

Shared Parenting Scotland is currently seeking to recruit a new chief executive, to take over running the charity when the current national manager retires early next year. The post is advertised here on the Good Moves site, and applications have to be submitted by 15th November.

The current national manager Ian Maxwell and Policy Manager John Forsyth have both worked for the charity since 2010, during which time the staff has grown to six people. The new chief executive will take on the challenge of maintaining and developing the organisation at a time when the need to support separated parents and their families is even greater than in 2010.

“This is an interesting time for Shared Parenting Scotland” comments Ian Maxwell. “Over the past 15 years we have seen the charity establish itself as the main voice promoting the benefits to children of having the full involvement of both parents after separation or divorce. Our helpline and local support meetings have supported thousands of parents to deal with barriers to this involvement”

“In recent years we have brought the New Ways For Families online training and coaching to the UK and also developed our Love, Loss and Living training to support parents who are not seeing their children. We also benefit from good working relations with family lawyers, mediators and other family support services across Scotland.”

“There are also still plenty of challenges – making the family courts easier and quicker to use and helping as many parents as possible to resolve disputes without having to go to court. The implementation of the 2020 Children (Scotland) Act has to be speeded up, and barriers to shared parenting within the Child Maintenance system need to be changed.”
