How many lone fathers are there in the UK?

The Guardian newspaper has compiled a handy roundup of the UK statistics about single fathers.

According to the Office of National Statistics, 400,000 families are headed by a single father, representing nearly 14 per cent of single-parent families in the UK.

Average family size in single father households is 2.32, slightly smaller than that in single mother households (2.61).

Single father households also have a higher proportion of non-dependant children (aged over 16 and not in full-time non advanced education) than single mother households.
