Dawn Black MSP asks Scottish government for update on Children (Scotland) Act implementation

On 8 October 2026, SNP MSP Dawn Black pressed Scottish Government Minister, Kirsten Oswald, for progress on implementing remaining sections of the Children (Scotland) Act 2020 relating to child contact cases, including those that addressed delays affecting grandparents seeking to maintain contact with their grandchildren.

A significant amount of our casework has always been with grandparents, cut adrift from previously strong reationships with their grandchildren.

A handful of grandparents have been successful in arguing their case in court for contact time. In the absence of grandparent ‘rights’, most are unsuccessful.
